Quick Japan vol.184 (Ota Shuppan), released on June 24, dedicates a major feature to Shin Gekijouban☆Keroro Gunsou: Fukkatsu shite Sokkou Chikyuu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu!, the new theatrical film based on Yoshizaki Mine‘s manga. The film also graces the cover of the magazine’s SPECIAL EDITION variant.
“A Survival Strategy Without Trying Hard”
The feature runs under the theme “Ganbaranai Seizon Senryaku” (“A Survival Strategy Without Trying Hard”), exploring the laid-back philosophy embedded in the Keroro Gunsou series — a world where its alien protagonist routinely fails, slacks off, and forgets his own mission to invade Earth. The piece unpacks why that easygoing attitude is central to the franchise’s enduring charm.
The feature includes interviews with three of the series’ longtime voice actors: Watanabe Kumiko (Keroro Gunsou), Kozakura Etsuko (Tamama Nitohei), and Nakata Jouji (Giroro Gochou). Because the upcoming TV anime series — set to begin airing this autumn — will feature an entirely new main cast, this theatrical film marks the final appearance of all three in their iconic roles. Their interviews reflect on the characters and what these roles have meant to them.
Storyboard Debut and More
The feature also includes an interview with ano, who serves as the promotional ambassador for the franchise’s 20th anniversary project, performs the film’s opening theme and main theme, and voices the “Researcher Robot” character. Alongside the interview, the issue publishes storyboards from the film for the very first time, as well as a curated selection of the best episodes from the anime’s history.
The SPECIAL EDITION cover uses a newly drawn illustration of Keroro relaxing while sketching, with Tamama, Giroro, Kululu, and Dororo visible in the sketchbook he holds. The SPECIAL EDITION is available exclusively through the QJ Store online shop.
