The official website for the Red River (Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori) television anime — based on Chie Shinohara‘s shōjo manga — has released the full promotional video and main visual for the series’ second part. The promo previews the new opening theme song “Akatsuki no Hoshi” (Morning Star), performed by Nana Mizuki, who also voices a character in the series.
Story Synopsis
Yuri, a cheerful Japanese girl, is on cloud nine after acing her college entrance exam and sharing her first kiss with her childhood friend-turned-boyfriend. Her happiness is short-lived, however, as she begins to notice that water stirs strangely whenever she is near it. One night, hands reach up from a puddle on the street and drag her under. She awakens in an ancient Middle Eastern village, only to be seized by armed soldiers and brought to the Queen’s palace as a human sacrifice.

The anime premiered in NTV’s “AnichU” block on July 7 at 25:35 (effectively July 8 at 1:35 a.m.), and on BS NTV on July 8. Crunchyroll is streaming the series simultaneously with Japan.
About the Manga
Chie Shinohara originally serialized the manga in Shogakukan’s Shōjo Comic (Sho-Comi) magazine from 1995 to 2002. Viz Media published the complete 28-volume English edition between 2004 and 2010, and began re-releasing the series in 3-in-1 omnibus editions in October 2024 — with the eighth omnibus arriving on July 21. The manga also inspired a stage production by the celebrated all-female Takarazuka Revue troupe in 2018.
