A brand-new collection of 12 T-shirt designs inspired by the classic manga Sakigake!! Otokojuku (魁!!男塾) is now on sale at pTa.shop, joining an already popular lineup of merchandise celebrating the series.
40 Years of Manly Spirit
Created by Miyashita Akira, Sakigake!! Otokojuku began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) in 1985 and has just marked its 40th anniversary. Set in a school for delinquent boys gathered from across Japan, the story follows their brutal, superhuman training as they forge deep bonds of friendship and discover what it truly means to be a man. The series was a massive hit among school-age boys at the time, spawning a TV anime adaptation in 1988 and a theatrical film. The theme song performed by Ikkitosei Sepia — featuring Yanagiba Toshiro and Aikawa Sho — also became a chart hit. Over the past four decades, the franchise has continued to expand through sequels, spin-offs, stage productions, and web anime.
12 New Designs
The new shirts translate the passionate, larger-than-life spirit of the series’ most beloved characters into sleek modern graphics. Featured characters include:
- Ken Momotaro — top first-year student and the series’ protagonist
- Akaishi Gōji — top second-year student
- Date Omito — supreme leader of the Kanto Gogakuren
- Ō Daijin — acting principal, famous for his iconic “Death Confirmed!” declarations
- Edajima Heihachi — the all-powerful principal of Otokojuku
- Baron Dino — one of the fearsome Chinjunaokoro Sanninshu third-years, known as the “Hell’s Magician”
Design Highlights
The “Edajima Heihachi — Shintō Mekkyaku” shirt boldly emblazons his legendary quote: “心頭滅却すれば火もまた涼しじゃーーっ!!” (“When the mind is emptied, even fire feels cool!!”) across the chest.
The “Edajima Heihachi — Third Reinforcement” shirt depicts the mysterious masked figure who appeared as the “third secret helper” — who, no matter how you look at it, is clearly Principal Edajima himself.
The “Ō Daijin (Front)” shirt features the acting principal, said to be on par with Edajima Heihachi in ability.
The “Ō Daijin — Death Confirmed (Double-sided)” shirt prints the unforgettable “死亡確認” (“Death Confirmed”) catchphrase on the front, while the back shows Ō Daijin serenely slurping a bowl of ramen.
The “Baron Dino Type A” shirt captures Hell’s Magician in his signature pose — sinister grin, ace of spades in hand — ready to invite you to share a drink.
