Company Sand B, a subsidiary of Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) Holdings responsible for anime planning and development, has acquired a 51% stake in Xenotoon, a 3D CG anime studio, making Xenotoon an official group company of Sand B. Alongside this announcement, anime director Yasuda Gensho also unveiled a special visual illustration created to mark the occasion.

Plans to Integrate with Seven Arcs

TBS and Sand B plan to merge Xenotoon with anime studio Seven Arcs, which TBS acquired back in December 2017. The merger is expected to take place in mid-2027. Seven Arcs is well known for the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise and is currently producing the latest entry, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance, set to premiere on July 4 this year.

About Xenotoon

Xenotoon was founded in November 2019, with Kawase Koichi serving as producer and CEO. The studio is known for its collaborations with animator and director Yasuda Gensho, who has crafted multiple CG short works, including directing Make a Girl, his first full-length anime feature, which had its theatrical run in March 2025 (credited as “Yasuda Gensho Studio by Xenotoon” in the credits). Xenotoon and Yasuda have also co-produced the Moana to Densetsu no Umi 2 3D Short Anime.

In July 2025, Web3 anime brand Azuki, together with Comisma and Xenotoon, announced the establishment of a joint anime studio in the United States under the name “Studio Azuki.”

Sand B and TBS’s Investment

Sand B was established in May 2025 by TBS Holdings as a company dedicated exclusively to anime planning, development, and production (previously operating under the provisional name CIP). TBS invested up to 3 billion yen (approximately $20.7 million USD) to establish the company, aiming to maximize revenue and accelerate global expansion through a partnership with Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS), with Akatsu Kazuhiko as representative director.
