Last week, the social media account Deathdol Note, which reports on allegations in the idol industry, published a report and photos alleging that Satoru Kuwabara, a well-known musician and music producer, had been involved in extramarital relationships with multiple women for at least two years.
On Saturday, Kuwabara posted a statement on his own X account, formerly Twitter, acknowledging that although the information being circulated “does not reflect the complete picture,” the “main points” of the allegations are true. He also announced that he is resigning as music producer for the Ensemble Stars! franchise, a popular male idol game and media project, and said he will provide further details later about other projects and Sir Vanity, the band in which he plays bass.
Before the allegations became widely known, Kuwabara had already announced on April 28 that he would take a one-month break from work from May 11 to June 14. In the same announcement, he also stated that he was considering and discussing the possibility of stepping down as head of the music label Arte Refact and leaving the music industry.
Arte Refact Announces Dissolution, Artists Plan New Agency
Arte Refact, the music label led by Kuwabara under the company Memento mori, announced on Tuesday that all creators affiliated with the label will leave on June 30. The label stated that it will fully honor existing contracts and agreements.
Yuki Honda, one of the creators affiliated with Arte Refact, posted on social media the same day that he and other creators plan to establish a new agency in July.
Allegations and Kuwabara’s Work
Deathdol Note’s post stated that during the alleged affairs, Kuwabara was married and a father. The women reportedly involved included voice actors, VTubers and employees of various music labels. The post also alleged that he gave concert tickets for Sir Vanity and Ensemble Stars! events to those women.
Kuwabara is widely known as the main music producer for the male idol project Ensemble Stars!, which has been adapted into games, manga and anime, including both television series and films. He has also produced and composed music for many other projects under Arte Refact, including The IDOLM@STER Million Live! and The Idolm@ster SideM.
His anime theme song composition and production credits also cover numerous titles, including Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei!, Komori-san Can’t Decline, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Z/X Code reunion and Chillin’ in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King’s Army.
