On June 3, a special press and fan screening for the film 「新劇場版☆ケロロ軍曹 復活して速攻地球滅亡の危機であります！」 (Shin Gekijouban Keroro Gunso: Fukkatsu shite Sokkou Chikyuu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu!) was held at Nissho Hall in Tokyo. A pre-screening stage event featured key cast and staff, including Kumiko Watanabe (Keroro Gunso), Jesse of SixTONES (Arru/Derru), ano (publicity chief and voice of a researcher robot), Shinobu Hasegawa of the comedy duo Sisonne (narrator), and Yuichi Fukuda, scriptwriter and chief director. A Keroro mascot also appeared on stage.

Finished Just 2 Days Before Screening!

The film is part of the 20th anniversary project for the Keroro Gunso anime and is scheduled for its official theatrical release on June 26, 2026. The June 3 event marked the film’s earliest screening anywhere in the world.

Chief director Fukuda surprised the audience by revealing that the film had only been completed two days before the event. He explained that although there had been a completed version earlier, it was sent back for revisions, forcing the team to finish it at the last minute. “When you watch it, you’ll understand what happened. To put it simply, we got scolded, had to fix it, and barely finished in time,” Fukuda said with a laugh.

Jesse Plays Two Roles, While Hasegawa Takes on Narration

Jesse plays a pair of siblings, Arru and Derru, by himself. He said he tried to make their voices distinct while keeping too much of his own personality from showing through. For Arru in particular, he noted, “The voice is somewhat close to my natural voice, but I tried to make it sound appealing and approachable for children.”

Shinobu Hasegawa, who handles narration in place of original narrator Keiji Fujiwara, said he initially watched the original anime to prepare, but Fujiwara’s narration was so excellent that he felt he could not compete. He then chose to put some distance between himself and the original. Eventually, he realized that Fukuda giving him almost no information was a sign that he should “react like an ordinary viewer who knows nothing in advance,” which allowed the second half of the narration to come out in his own voice.

Theme Songs and Story Highlights

ano handles both the opening theme and main theme for the film. She said the main theme expresses the everyday lives of the Keroro platoon, and Fukuda asked her to add shout-style vocals, so she packed it with fun. Fukuda added that after seeing ano’s concert at Budokan, he was impressed by the message she conveyed to listeners and asked her to include words that would encourage children watching the film. He said she responded wonderfully.

As for the film itself, Fukuda said he wanted to preserve the fun and comedic flavor that makes Keroro unique, while also helping viewers feel the bond of the Keroro platoon and the sibling love between Arru and Derru.

“Jeshijeshi” – Please Help Spread It!

At the end of the event, Jesse and Kumiko Watanabe spoke on behalf of the cast. Jesse told fans, “There are so many highlights, but if I had to pick the top one, it would be Hasegawa-san’s narration, which makes the film even more fun. Personally, I hope everyone comes to love Arru and Derru too. Keroro-san is very cute and has been loved for so long, and this time everything has powered up. Please help spread the word ‘Jeshijeshi’!”

Kumiko Watanabe thanked fans for bringing plush toys and collectibles to the event, adding, “Everyone here today fits perfectly with Keroro. And ano’s final song will make your body move automatically, so please enjoy the ending scene!”
