The staff behind the upcoming television anime Shōzen — an adaptation of Jiang Jia Meizi‘s Chinese manhua Shang Shan — has unveiled the series’ first promotional video and confirmed an April 2027 premiere. The anime will air as part of the B8station programming block on Fuji TV and other outlets. Simultaneously, Micro Magazine‘s RaiComi website began releasing the Japanese edition of the manhua, launching with the first twenty chapters.

Story

The series centers on Dōzen, a wandering Taoist priest who comes across a young girl that has been raised by supernatural creatures. He gives her the name Shōzen, takes her on as his disciple, and sets out to teach her about human emotion and love.

Staff

The anime is being produced at Dangan Pictures and Cannon Code. Itsurō Kawasaki (True Cooking Master Boy, Lady Jewelpet) is directing and handling series composition. Eri Osada (Ensemble Stars!, The World’s Finest Assassin) is serving as character designer and chief animation director, while Takurō Iga (Magical Girl Raising Project, Oshi no Ko) is composing the score.
