The official website for the stage adaptation of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli‘s beloved anime film Spirited Away announced the cast for its upcoming world tour on Thursday.
Chihiro Cast
Three actresses who have previously played the lead role of Chihiro are all returning: Kanna Hashimoto (known for the live-action Gintama, Kaguya-sama: Love is War, and Kingdom), Mone Kamishiraishi (your name., live-action Chihayafuru, LDK), and Momoko Fukuchi (live-action Wasteful Days of High School Girl, Radio Star). Hashimoto and Kamishiraishi alternated in the role during the play’s first run in 2022, while Fukuchi joined them for the 2024 run.
Marina Mori, who appeared in the Japanese production of High School Musical, will again serve as the understudy for Chihiro — a role she has held during the play’s 2024–25 London run, 2025 Shanghai run, and 2026 Seoul run.
New Cast Members
Three new additions have also been announced: Nagi Inoue (member of idol group Nogizaka46), Hana Toyoshima, and Kokoro Hirasawa. Their specific roles have not yet been revealed.

Creative Team
The production is directed and co-adapted by John Caird — Tony and Olivier Award-winning director and Honorary Associate Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, whose credits include Les Misérables and Nicholas Nickleby — alongside co-adapter Maoko Imai.
Background and Awards
The stage play made its world premiere at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo in February 2022, subsequently touring Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Nagoya for a total of 102 performances. A second Japanese run followed in August 2023 and March 2024. The production then played London’s Coliseum from April to August 2024, where it won the Best New Play award at the 25th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards in 2025. GKIDS also screened recorded performances of both Japanese cast versions in North American cinemas in 2023.
About Spirited Away
The original Spirited Away anime film was once the highest-grossing Japanese film worldwide before being surpassed by Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train. It remains historically significant as the first non-English-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003 — a distinction it held alone until Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron claimed the same award in 2024.
