Endo Tatsuya, the creator of SPY×FAMILY, took to his personal X (formerly Twitter) account to announce the release of Chapter 139 — and the accompanying illustration he posted has fans in stitches.
Anya and Bond Melt Under the Summer Heat
The illustration shows Anya and the family dog Bond completely melting from the sweltering heat. Anya is depicted in a droopy, liquefied state, while Bond has lost virtually all recognizable form — even Anya’s ice-cream stick has melted along with everything else.
Fans flooded the replies with laughter and bewilderment: “Bond has turned into white butter!” “Is that puddle supposed to be Bond??” “Even Anya’s popsicle stick is melting lol” “Bond’s original shape is completely gone — it really is that hot…” and “Anya and Bond are both melting lmao” were among the top comments.
Chapter 139 Split Into Two Parts
Alongside the illustration, Endo wrote: “SPY×FAMILY Chapter 139 has been updated. Because the page count grew too large, I’ve split it into a front and back half. So the next chapter will be a little shorter than usual — I hope you’ll understand.” The first half of Chapter 139 is now available on the manga app Shonen Jump+.
Bonus Post: Anya and Becky Visit a Fishing Pond
On August 4th, Endo posted another illustration — this time placing hand-drawn versions of Anya and Becky over a real photograph of a fishing pond.
The location carries significance for fans of the Japanese idol group Nogizaka46: it appeared in the music video for former member Nishino Nanase‘s solo song 「釣り堀」(Tsuribori / Fishing Pond), and was also visited by former member Saito Asuka and YOASOBI vocalist Ikuta Rira during a television shoot.
Endo is well known as a devoted fan of the Sakamichi idol groups. The Anya-and-Becky illustration drew warm responses from fans, with comments such as “The illustration of Anya and Becky going out together is so cute” and “Is that the fishing pond where Nachan and Asuka-chan filmed? Thank you so much, Endo-sensei!”
