Hitoshi Itō serves as producer, having previously worked on Star Wars: Visions and Attack on Titan The Final Season.
Kenji Kamiyama, previously announced as supervising director, is also overseeing the series scripts.
Special Anime Expo Panel
The special screening will be accompanied by a panel featuring Kamiyama, Tada, Itō, and Lucasfilm executive producers Jacqui Lopez and Josh Rimes. The first episode will screen in Japanese with English subtitles.
Origins of The Ninth Jedi
The concept of Star Wars: Visions Presents was first announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025. The project expands stories from the Star Wars: Visions anthology into longer-form storytelling, with “The Ninth Jedi” becoming the first short to be developed in this format.
Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 previously launched on Disney+ on May 4, 2023 (Star Wars Day). Unlike the first volume, which collected nine shorts from Japanese anime studios, Volume 2 featured nine shorts from animation studios around the world, including Japan, India, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Chile, France, South Africa, South Korea, and the United States.
Most recently, Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 premiered on Disney+ on October 29, continuing stories from three shorts in the first volume: “The Duel,” “The Village Bride,” and “The Ninth Jedi.” It also includes the short “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” which tells of a war that began before Kara, the character from the original short, was born. That short is separate from the upcoming limited series.
