The production team behind Star Wars: Visions / The Ninth Jedi has officially announced the complete Japanese voice cast for the upcoming series, including several new characters making their debut.
Returning Cast
Akazaki Chinatsu returns as Kara, the protagonist and daughter of sabersmith Zima, who carries a powerful connection to the Force. Miki Shinichiro reprises his role as Zima, Kara’s father who has been taken captive by Nawam. Both actors have voiced these roles since Volume 1 and Volume 3 of the Visions series.
The ensemble of companions joining Kara on her adventure also returns:
- Kaneo Tetsuo — Juro, who seeks to revive the Jedi Order
- Mineta Hiromu — Ethan, a young Jedi trainee with a strong sense of justice
- Tadokoro Hinata — Homen, a bold and reliable warrior
- Cho — Ojii, an old beat-up droid with exceptional piloting skills
- Takahashi Hiroki — Beat, a Jedi hunter
New Characters and Cast
The headline addition is acclaimed actor Omori Nao, who voices Nawam — a menacing figure in a black mask reminiscent of Darth Vader, who appeared in the series’ trailer. Three more new characters were also announced:
- Naka Hirofumi — Danbai, lord of Makoma Ko
- Sakamoto Maaya — Tafura, lord of Bibin, who holds secrets about Zima’s past
- Hiyama Nobuyuki — Kwana, a miner living among Bibin’s asteroid fields who dreams of becoming a Jedi
Comments from the Cast
Akazaki Chinatsu expressed her pride in the project: “The fact that a Japanese anime studio has breathed new life and a fresh interpretation into the legendary world of Star Wars makes me incredibly proud as someone involved in the Japanese anime industry.”
Omori Nao, who had eagerly hoped to be part of the production, reflected on his history with the franchise: “My first encounter with Star Wars was in 1978, watching it with my family at a cinema in Shinjuku. I was only six years old and didn’t really understand the story, but I remember falling in love with R2-D2.” On his character, he added: “Nawam occupies a Darth Vader-like position in this story — incredibly cool, yet driven by a might-makes-right philosophy and a ruthless pragmatism. I am deeply honoured to have been given such a compelling character to portray.”
About the Series
Star Wars: Visions / The Ninth Jedi is the latest entry in the Star Wars: Visions anthology, which invites anime studios to bring their own creative vision to the Star Wars universe. This series expands on “The Ninth Jedi” from Volume 1 and its follow-up “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” into a full 8-episode long-form series.
Produced by Production I.G and directed by Kamiyama Kenji — who has cited Star Wars: A New Hope as the film that inspired him to pursue filmmaking — the series will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+ with all episodes dropping simultaneously on August 5.
