Star Wars: Visions / The Ninth Jedi is the first full-length series to emerge from the Star Wars: Visions anthology. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama — known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex — and produced by Japanese studio Production I.G, all 8 episodes dropped simultaneously in Japan and the United States on August 5, 2026, exclusively on Disney+.

Where to Watch

As of August 2026, Star Wars: Visions / The Ninth Jedi is a Disney+ exclusive. It is not available on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, U-NEXT, DMM TV, or any other major streaming platform — not for unlimited viewing, rental, or purchase. Disney+ is the only way to watch.

Disney+ Pricing

Disney+ offers two tiers — Standard and Premium — differing in video quality and the number of simultaneous streams. Both are available on monthly or annual billing.

  • Standard: ¥1,250/month or ¥12,500/year (approx. ¥1,042/month)
  • Premium: ¥1,670/month or ¥16,700/year

Disney+ does not offer a free trial period, so a paid subscription is required from day one. Subscribers who plan to watch for 11 months or more will save money with an annual plan. Importantly, the original short films — The Ninth Jedi (Volume 1) and The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope (Volume 3) — are included in the same subscription at no extra cost.

Story & Highlights

Set in a war-torn galaxy where both Jedi and Sith have vanished, the series follows Kara, a Force-sensitive girl living on the remote planet Hi’izran with her father Jima, the galaxy’s only remaining Sabersmith. When Jima is abducted, Kara sets out on a dangerous journey across the galaxy alongside companions who dream of reviving the Jedi Order. Standing in their way is the mysterious general Nawam, a masked figure who wields a blue lightsaber and believes that power alone defines justice.

Key Highlights

  • Lightsabers that change with their wielder: The blades Jima forges shift in color and length depending on the user’s Force affinity — a central mechanic unique to this series.
  • A villain with a blue blade: Nawam’s black mask paired with a Jedi-colored lightsaber creates a compelling mystery that drives the narrative forward.
  • Samurai-inspired swordplay: Production I.G brings a Japanese sword-duel aesthetic to lightsaber combat, blending the Star Wars universe with classic anime action.
