A new creative initiative called the Syncro Project (シンクロプロジェクト) has officially launched, using “fictional anime opening sequences” as the foundation for generating original intellectual properties. The project’s first work, 衣食食食住 (Ishokushokushokujū), with an original story by Ken Sōgen (研そうげん), has been published on the project’s official YouTube channel.

What Is the Syncro Project?

The Syncro Project is spearheaded by KUROGO, a company that develops content for music and visual artists, with original-story development support provided by Kodansha Creators’ Lab (講談社クリエイターズラボ). The concept brings together creators from diverse fields to co-produce original anime opening sequences, with revenues generated by each work distributed back to all participating creators.

Works that earn strong audience support are slated for potential media-mix expansion — including anime, manga, and novel adaptations. All songs will be made available on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. During the project’s first phase in 2026, a total of five works are planned for release.

First Work: Ishokushokushokujū

The story of Ishokushokushokujū is set in a world devastated by wars triggered by global warming and resource depletion. The protagonist is Hotaru, a 13-year-old girl who has lost her memories and travels the land pulling a mobile food stall. In a world where fine cuisine has all but vanished, she dreams of reviving ramen.

The opening theme, 「ガラスのワールズエンド」(Glass World’s End), is produced by Syncro Project together with DÉ DÉ MOUSE and 一十三十一 (Hitomi Toi).

Comments from Key Figures

Gin Kudō (工藤吟), Representative Director of KUROGO, described the project’s goal as realising “an ecosystem where creators and IPs grow together” — one where the more a work succeeds, the more value flows back to both creators and companies, with each achievement fuelling the next. He also stressed that fans who support the works through merchandise purchases, CD sales, shares, and encouraging messages are vital members of the project, helping to push titles toward full development.

Shūhei Kawanobe (川野邊周平) of Kodansha Creators’ Lab described the project as a relay race in which creators from various fields pass a creative baton to one another, culminating in a co-created fictional anime opening. Kodansha Creators’ Lab joined as an original-story development supporter, having resonated with the project’s philosophy, creative structure, and revenue model.
