The animated feature Tabekko Doubutsu THE MOVIE (たべっ子どうぶつ THE MOVIE), which opened in Japanese cinemas on May 1, 2025, has announced a major streaming milestone: an exclusive debut on Prime Video starting June 1, 2026, at 00:00 (Amazon Prime membership required).
Story
In the land of “Sweets Land,” where sweets and humans live together in harmony, the adorable idol group Tabekko Doubutsu are beloved superstars. But a villainous cotton-candy army, bent on eliminating all sweets and conquering the world, kidnaps Pegasus-chan, a key female member of the group!
Despite being a cute and fluffy crew with zero fighting ability, Tabekko Doubutsu resolve to rise to the challenge in what looks like a 1,000%-impossible rescue mission for their dear friend. What is the daring reversal plan they discover?
Characters and Voice Cast
- Lion-kun (Lion King) — Matsuda Genta (Travis Japan): The leader of Tabekko Doubutsu, kind-hearted and deeply dedicated to everyone’s smiles — though his enthusiasm sometimes gets misread by his friends.
- Zoji-kun (Elephant) — Mizukami Koji: Always calm and composed, he supports the group from behind the scenes, excels at strategic planning, and is Lion-kun’s oldest friend.
- Pegasus-chan (Pegasus) — Takaaishi Akari: The group’s newest member, who arrived with an explosion of popularity. Her singing voice enchants everyone and she flies freely — though Lion-kun may be a little jealous of her.
- Saru-kun (Monkey) — Fujimori Shingo: The group’s rapper; likes to brag about being a playboy, but has a genuinely strong and cool side when things get serious.
- Kaba-chan (Hippo) — Aoi Shota: The group’s mood-maker, full of jokes and affection for everyone. When he gets in the zone, he can run faster than anyone despite his large frame.
- Usagi-chan (Rabbit) — Ozawa Ari: A dedicated social media devotee who uses the power of SNS to handle any crisis. Her catchphrase is “Hi! Pew☆彡!”
- Neko-chan (Cat) — Misuse Inori: Laid-back and relaxed in everyday life, she has her own understated charm but is too shy to show it — even though she secretly enjoys striking poses at Usagi-chan’s request.
- Kirin-chan (Giraffe) — Higashiyama Nao: Gentle and polite, she feels most at ease when with the group. She’s quite timid, but can run fast and carry people on her back.
- Wani-kun (Crocodile) — Tachiki Fumihiko: The group’s most senior member and a gifted inventor; his creations are used in live performances. He has a passion for riding large motorcycles.
- Hiyoko-chan (Chick) — Mamiya Kurumi: The group’s smallest member, who expresses all her emotions with a single “peep!”
- Pero — Ono Ririana: A young girl the group encounters in a castle; she seems to have a habit of swiping sweets.
- Got-chan — Seki Tomokazu: A brown cotton candy with a cute appearance but a sharp tongue. He has some reason to travel with Lion-kun and knows a secret “spell” that nobody else does.
- Professor Macaron — Otsuka Akio: A brilliant professor at Sweets Land’s university who adores sweets yet rarely cracks a smile. He is a specialist in cotton-candy cuisine.
- King Cotton — Otsuka Yoshitada: A giant cotton candy that appears atop a castle in Sweets Land. He refuses to accept any sweet other than cotton candy.
