Anime fans, get ready! BS12 TwellV has announced that it will air the two Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (天元突破グレンラガン) films over two consecutive weeks as part of the “日曜アニメ劇場” (Sunday Anime Theater) block, using the Blu-ray master for the clearest picture quality.
Broadcast Schedule
- June 7, 2026 — 劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 紅蓮篇 (Gurren-hen), the first film
- June 14, 2026 — 劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 螺巌篇 (Lagann-hen), the second film
Both will air on Sundays at 7:00 p.m. on BS12, a nationwide free-to-air channel in Japan.
Series Background
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is an original TV anime that aired from April to September 2007. It was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, written by Kazuki Nakashima, and produced by GAINAX. The story follows Simon, a timid boy living underground, who meets the older-brother figure Kamina and other companions before setting out on an adventure to the surface world. The battlefield eventually expands all the way into space, alongside the giant robot Gurren Lagann.
Films That “Evolved” from the TV Series
The two films are not simple compilations of the TV series. They were fully restructured, with every line of dialogue newly recorded and many new scenes added, making them a kind of “ultimate complete form” of the story.
- 紅蓮篇 (Gurren-hen) — tells the battle to reclaim the surface world
- 螺巌篇 (Lagann-hen) — presents the final battle for the fate of all humanity
This is a good chance to watch the journey of a man unaware of his own destiny, from its beginning to its conclusion, with beautiful Blu-ray-master visuals across two consecutive Sunday nights.
