The short anime Tengu Tosen (天狗刀戦), a co-production between Plott and Bandai Namco Entertainment, made its official debut on YouTube on July 24. The series is described as a Japanese-style sword-action fantasy (和風剣戟奇譚).
Story
Tengu Tosen follows the battles between malevolent tengu and the warriors known as Tobatshi (刀罰士) who are tasked with cutting them down. At the center of the story is Hinomiya Akari, a young boy who harbors the soul of Hajun — the most fearsome great tengu to ever threaten the world. As Akari meets companions and grapples with a power he cannot control, he marches toward a fateful confrontation with his destined enemy.

Cast Comments
Shuichiro Umeda (Hinomiya Akari)
Umeda described Akari as a character who faces everything head-on — himself and others alike. “I hope you’ll watch him grow, even as he carries a harsh fate on his shoulders,” he said, adding that Tengu Tosen is packed with cool, funny, and even cute moments.
Ryuichi Sawada (Kiryu Ushio)
Sawada noted that while Ushio appears to carry a heavy past, he actually loves children and has an endearing habit of collecting merchandise from the series “Parasite-kun to Kobae-chan.” Sawada jokingly suggested Ushio is definitely the type to be into plushie collecting, and encouraged fans to keep an eye on his surprising gap in personality.
Azusa Tsujimori (Kyosho Kirin)
Tsujimori described Kirin as a cool beauty who lives up to her name, but also has a lazy, mischievous side that makes her a uniquely strong-willed sole female character in the group. She invited viewers to discover what led Kirin to become a Tobatshi and how she will grow in that role.
From the Producers
Bandai Namco Entertainment stated that the project was launched in partnership with Plott — a studio with a strong track record in short-form anime — with the goal of creating something widely enjoyable. The company highlighted the “relationships” and “passion” between characters, alongside the authentic Japanese sword-action, as the series’ key draws. A representative from Bandai Namco’s Innovation 021 Fund also shared that their personal favorite character is Kirin, praising her cool exterior paired with genuine charm.
Starting July 31, Lawson Convenience Print stickers for Tengu Tosen will be available for purchase via multi-copy machines installed at Lawson convenience stores across Japan.
