Netflix and Twin Engine have revealed the teaser trailer, key art, main cast, and release date for the anime film The Ribbon Hero, adapted from Osamu Tezuka‘s manga Princess Knight (Ribbon no Kishi). The film will debut worldwide on August 8.

Main Cast

Playing the role of Sapphire is Saya from the comedy duo Lalande — Netflix notes this is the first time she has taken a lead role in a full-length anime film.

Synopsis

Sapphire is a princess of a kingdom that no longer exists. She has lost everything in her homeland of Silverland to a calamity known as “Nergal” and must flee desperately, eventually reaching the land of Goldland. Though haunted by wounds from the past, she begins to find a glimmer of hope in the kindness of the people around her.

As she tries to settle into a peaceful new life, the Nergal disaster reappears, threatening to rob her of the homeland she has already lost once. Now the same land is on the verge of being plunged into the same darkness.

“I will never lose anything again. And I will never let anyone else lose anything either.”

Shedding tears of sorrow, she rises — this is the story of a lone heroine who is wounded yet resolute, facing her own destiny.
