The feature-length anime film THE RIBBON HERO (リボンヒーロー), an adaptation of the classic manga Ribbon no Kishi (リボンの騎士) by Tezuka Osamu, has officially announced its global premiere date on Netflix as August 8, 2026. The announcement also reveals that Saya (サヤ) from the comedy duo Laland will voice the lead character Sapphire (サファイアー). A main visual and first trailer have also been released.

Saya’s First Lead Role in a Feature Anime
This marks the first time Saya has taken on a voice acting role in a feature-length anime. She revealed that she felt a small flutter of nervousness upon receiving the offer, due to her deep respect for the meticulous and ceremonious world of anime. What ultimately made up her mind was the director’s words — that Sapphire’s life and background closely mirrors her own.

Key Visual and First Trailer
The key visual of the film is striking — it showcases Sapphire in her transformed state, gripping her sword with eyes burning with determination. At the center stands Sapphire in her pre-transformation form, her large red ribbon a defining visual motif, alongside three other new characters and the series tagline: “This feeling will become a sword.”
The first trailer opens with Sapphire’s anguished cry as she is covered in wounds, before she receives the power of transformation from the ribbon and declares her resolve: “For everyone who is suffering,” while a character smiles knowingly in the background.
