The TV anime team behind Though I Am an Inept Villainess (Japanese title: Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga – Sōgū Chōso Torikae Den) by Satsuki Nakamura has unveiled a new promotional visual and confirmed the series’ official premiere date as this coming Saturday.
Broadcast Date and Streaming
The anime will begin airing on TV Tokyo and affiliated stations on July 12 at 23:45 JST. This date was moved from the previously announced April premiere due to delays in the production process.
For international viewers, Crunchyroll will stream the series simultaneously with its Japanese broadcast, covering North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and the Indian subcontinent.
Story Synopsis
The story unfolds in an empire steeped in ancient Chinese inspiration, where a great noble family sends their daughter into the imperial court to compete for the position of imperial consort. Ko Reirin, a beautiful and clever young woman, is body-swapped by Shu Keietsu, a woman who has been dubbed “the villainess of the court.” Even so, with a strong and determined spirit, Reirin overcomes obstacle after obstacle within Keietsu’s body — and gradually begins to change Keietsu’s heart from the inside.
However, Reirin’s body has been taken over by the antagonist to seize a position at court. The situation looks perilous in everyone’s eyes — but not Reirin’s, because right now she possesses a body far stronger than her own, and even the threat of execution cannot stop her!

Source Material
The original light novel by Satsuki Nakamura with illustrations by YukiKana has been published by Ichijinsha since November 2020, and a manga adaptation by Ei Ohitsuji runs in Monthly Comic Zero-Sum. The light novel currently runs to 12 volumes (with volume 12 released March 31). Seven Seas Entertainment publishes both the light novel and the manga in English under the title Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court.
