The 4K revival of 「時をかける少女」(The Girl Who Leapt Through Time), directed by Hosoda Mamoru, has been officially confirmed and will be screened at a total of 161 theaters nationwide, beginning Friday, July 3, 2026.
Crystal-Clear 4K — True to the Original
This remastering places strong emphasis on preserving the original color design of the film while eliminating the noise and color bleed that was present throughout the original print. The result is an image of striking clarity, drawn to its absolute limit — details of the cityscape, the depth of the summer sky, and various background elements now appear more vivid and dimensional than ever before.
The goal was not a superficial color grading, but rather revealing the full beauty that was always latent in the original frames, to deliver the feeling of a “fresh, alive summer” on the big screen with even greater resonance than before.
While the 4K file is the basis, some theaters or screens may present the film in 2K depending on their facilities.
Expanding to More Theaters
The initial announcement listed 147 theaters; the latest update has added venues in multiple prefectures — including Iwate, Yamagata, Fukushima, Gunma, Saitama, Tokyo, Nagano, Osaka, Hyogo, Saga, and Oita — bringing the total to 161 theaters nationwide.
