Original Novels and Manga
The anime’s first season premiered in April 2022, with Crunchyroll streaming it alongside an English dub. Mishima’s original light novels began on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2017 and were published by Micro Magazine under the GC Novels label, with illustrations by Monda. The series ended with Volume 13 in March 2024.
The manga adaptation by Jun Shiosato began on Kadokawa’s Dra Dra Dragon Age website in October 2018 before moving platforms several times. It is currently serialized in Monthly Dragon Age, where it has run since January 2022. Seven Seas publishes the English version.
In August 2025, the manga restarted in Monthly Dragon Age under the new title Otome Game Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai Desu Ryūgaku-hen (Trapped in a Dating Sim: Study Abroad Arc) with a new team: Tanuki Odoro as artist, Seiichiro Matsuri handling composition, and FTops in charge of production. The first compiled volume has already been released on January 9. Shiosato explained that the change in staff did not come from any conflict, but because he personally decided to “raise the white flag” on continuing as the artist for future story material.
Micro Magazine has also published two spinoff novels titled Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of That Otome Game Is Tough for Us, which Seven Seas also releases in English. A manga adaptation of the spinoff by Renji Fukuhara is also serialized on Dra Dra Flat♭.
