Kadokawa has released the official trailer and announced the theme song artist for the upcoming film Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun: Ukkari Detekita Uchūjin o Sagase! (Space Academy: Find the Aliens Who Accidentally Came Out!), based on Yūji Nishimura‘s web manga Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun (Space Academy).

The trailer previews the film’s theme song, “Uchū no Nanchara Nakama” (Space Friend), performed by Shōko Nakagawa. The track sets the tone for the film’s adventurous, space-faring spirit.
Story
The film follows space pilot trainee Kotetsu, who catches wind of a rumor about the possible existence of aliens — sending the entire academy on a frantic search. Alongside animated sequences, the film will incorporate real footage of space. The full cast from the television anime will return to reprise their roles.

Background
Nishimura launched the source manga on August 6, 2019, shortly after the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, and has posted a new chapter every other Monday for free. The manga follows Kotetsu and his friends at the Animal Space Academy as they pursue their dreams of reaching the stars.
The television anime’s first season premiered on NHK Educational in April 2021 and ran through March 2022. A second season followed in April 2022, concluding in February 2023.
The film is scheduled to open in theaters on September 11.
