Talent agency Ken Production (Ken Production) has officially announced that voice actor Takahiro Fujiwara (Takahiro Fujiwara) passed away on May 14 of this year at the age of 43. The funeral was held quietly according to the family’s wishes, with only close relatives in attendance.
Fujiwara was born on July 15 in Hokkaido. The agency’s website described him endearingly as “a person so hooked on games he’d forget to eat and sleep” and “a homebody type who tries hard to stay home.” Though his appearance and voice made him seem villainous, he himself said “I personally think I’m quite lovable.”
Anime Voice Acting Credits
Among Fujiwara’s most recent roles was voicing Kan Jou (Kan Jou / Huan Chang) in the anime Kingdom. However, he had to step down from that role in August of last year due to health reasons, with Teruyuki Tanzawa stepping in to cover for him.
Fujiwara earned a devoted fanbase in the anime community through many roles, including:
- Kurogiri in My Hero Academia
- Senzo Inukai in Laughing Under the Clouds (both TV and film versions)
- Jerome Guizbatt in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War
- Bor Gil Bor in BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-: Hell’s Requiem
- Pippin in Berserk: The Golden Age Arc – Memorial Edition and the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc film series
- Eiji Nebuya in Kuroko’s Basketball
- Goichi Shimazu in Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z
Video Games and Other Media
Beyond anime, Fujiwara also had an extensive video game voice acting career, including roles such as Walter Echard in Detective Pikachu, Deathstroke and Lex Luthor in Batman: Arkham Shadow, Goro Daimon in The King of Fighters XIV and The King of Fighters: All Star, King Cuckling in The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Oivetou “Jackal” Mabuza in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Kohl in the mobile game Hokuto no Ken: Legend Revive.
In animation dubbing, he voiced Harry in the Japanese dub of Sing and Marshmallow in Frozen, as well as Dr. Screwball Jones in the American animated series Wander Over Yonder and Kevin Crawford in the live-action series CSI.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Takahiro Fujiwara.
