Anime characters have left countless iconic lines etched in fans’ memories, and one thing that makes those lines all the more memorable is the distinctly unique voice of each voice actor behind them — whether it’s a lovable voice, a cool one, or a tone that simply feels like a warm embrace.
Recently, Anime! Anime! launched a reader poll under the heading, “Which voice actor comes to mind when you hear this line?” — now in its 18th edition following the overwhelming popularity of Round 17. The line for this round is:
「おかえりー！今日もよく頑張った！」— “Welcome home! You worked so hard today!”
May is a month when many people feel drained or burned out — what Japanese speakers sometimes call “5月病” (gogatsu-byou, “May sickness”). Imagine having a beloved voice actor cheering you on every day with this line. Would it lift your spirits? Would it be a bright, cheerful voice, a warm mature voice, or the coolest voice possible? The answer is yours to choose!
