The original anime project WASTED CHEF from director Takayuki Hirao has released its official teaser video. A manga adaptation has also been announced.
A World Where Taste Has Disappeared
WASTED CHEF is a feature-length anime film with a cooking x sci-fi theme. It follows a young chef who sets out on an adventure in a world where the taste of food has mysteriously vanished. The project is being produced by the same team behind Pompo the Cinephile (映画大好きポンポさん).
In the teaser, a boy and a girl meet in the rain before spending time together at a restaurant called “THE DAY”. The eye-catching highlight is a burger scene rendered in beautiful, carefully crafted animation: lettuce, tomato, onion, and a juicy beef patty gleam inside soft buns, making the dish look irresistibly appetizing.
The end of the teaser also briefly shows a mysterious structure and strange light covering the sky, before closing with the chilling line 「その日、世界から”君”と”味”が消えた──」 (That day, both “you” and “taste” disappeared from the world).
Manga Adaptation by Aero05
It was also announced that Aero05 will adapt WASTED CHEF into manga form. The manga will begin serialization in the July issue of Young Ace from KADOKAWA, which goes on sale on June 4. It will give fans an early chance to experience the world of WASTED CHEF.
