Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon (My Happy Marriage) is a Japanese-style fantasy anime produced by Kinema Citrus, adapted from the novel series by Akumi Agitogi (Fujimi L Bunko / KADOKAWA), with original illustrations by Tsukiho Tsukioka. Season 1 aired from July to September 2023 on TOKYO MX and other channels, running for 12 episodes.
Synopsis
Set in a fictional Japan evoking the Meiji–Taisho era, Miyo Saimori is the eldest daughter of a family with supernatural abilities. After losing her birth mother at a young age, she is treated little better than a servant by her stepmother and half-sister. Her only emotional anchor is Koji Tatsuishi, the second son of the Tatsuishi family.
When her father arranges for Koji to marry her half-sister instead, Miyo is sent to wed Kiyoka Kudo — a military officer rumored to be cold and ruthless. Determined to be of use to him, Miyo endures her new life while concealing a secret about her own powers.
Season 1 Finale
Episode 12, “Light in the Darkness,” closes Season 1 with Miyo using her awakening Yumemi (dream-seer) ability to enter Kiyoka’s unconscious mind, vowing to bring him back. However, she finds herself not beside Kiyoka but inside the Saimori estate — a place filled with painful memories.
Highlights
- A slowly shifting bond — Miyo and Kiyoka begin with walls firmly up, but small gestures — a braided cord, a first outing together — gradually draw them closer, rendered through careful dialogue and expressive animation.
- Miyo’s growth — From a young woman who believes herself worthless, she begins to confront the power inherited from her mother, supported by Kiyoka and the household attendant Yurie.
- Visuals and music — Kinema Citrus renders the beauty of cherry blossoms and kimono in rich detail, paired with a score by Evan Call, opening theme 「貴方の側に。」 by りりあ。, and ending theme 「ヰタ・フィロソフィカ」 by Itou Kashitarou.
