The staff for the TV anime Yani Neko, based on the manga by Nyan Nyan Factory serialized in Kodansha’s Young Magazine, has officially released the main PV. The opening and ending theme songs were also announced.

Main PV: When a Cigarette Butt Falls on the Landlord’s Head

The main PV opens with the landlord humming while cleaning the apartment, only for a cigarette butt dropped by Yani Neko to fall directly onto his head. The scene clearly captures the tone of this “heartwarming animal-human comedy.” Other colorful characters such as Yaku Neko, Hame Neko, Kansai Neko, and Al Neko also appear one after another. The song used in the main PV is “Nanmo Nee” by Wasureranneyo, which serves as the series’ opening theme.

Impressions of the work: My favorite chapter is 227mg in volume 8, because everything that makes me love Yani Neko is packed into it. All of us have made mistakes, whether we said too much, said too little, or did something at the wrong time. But behind those actions, there are always real feelings: wanting someone to be happy, wanting them to stop crying, or wanting them to feel they have a place to belong, even though we never do it well.

Intention behind the song: I wrote this song with language and ideas that only people who truly love Yani Neko will understand.

Impressions of the work: Since Yani Neko came into the world, many people have probably felt its sharpness and charming vulgarity mixed with a certain nostalgia. Some may even have wanted to try living that way. These characters teach us about life, music, humanity, pain, and tenderness.

Intention behind the song: Congratulations on Yani Neko becoming an anime. As someone who has followed Arai-sensei’s work all along, nothing could make me happier. I put everything into this song so it could become part of this work.

About Yani Neko

The story takes place in a world where humans and animal-humans live together. It follows the daily life of Yani Neko, a cat-type animal-human who is heavily addicted to cigarettes and does not exactly have her life together, through a comedy lens that is both funny and touching.
