It has been officially announced that Yonezu Kenshi, the acclaimed Japanese artist, has been invited to compose a new song titled 「夜鷹 (Yodaka)」 to serve as the theme song for 『キングダム 魂の決戦』 (Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen), set for nationwide release across Japan on July 17, 2026. Alongside this announcement, a new trailer featuring the song has been released, along with fresh artist photos and comments from Yonezu.
About the Kingdom Film Series
The Kingdom live-action film series is adapted from the acclaimed manga by Hara Yasuhisa. Since 2019 through 2024, four installments have been released, accumulating a total audience of over 17.34 million viewers and a combined box office gross exceeding 24.5 billion yen, making it one of the biggest live-action film franchises in Japan.
Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen — Part 5
This fifth installment will depict the “Allied Forces Arc (合従軍編)”, one of the most beloved arcs in the original manga, centering on a massive historic clash between Qin and a coalition of six allied states, each united by their shared desire for survival.
In the newly released trailer, viewers can see the dream of Xin (信) — to become the “greatest general under the heavens” — alongside the unwavering ambition of King Ying Zheng (嬴政) to unify China, and the formidable resolve of General Oki (王騎). The intense duel between Xin and Mangoku (万極) is also shown in striking fashion, with “Yodaka” perfectly amplifying the dramatic atmosphere.
Comments from the Cast and Staff
Yonezu Kenshi: “I wrote a song called ‘Yodaka.’ Kingdom feels like a grand festival that opens wide to everyone, where people can come together to celebrate once a year. It feels like a true honor to be part of it. I want Xin to keep pushing straight ahead without wavering — good luck always.”
Director Sato Shinsuke: “In Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen, in the midst of the greatest war, there is a darkness that cannot be decided by mere right or wrong. The first time I heard the completed version of ‘Yodaka,’ I was deeply moved, because in the sadness of that song there is the same wound and pain shared by those who must fight each other as enemies — and the grief of a war that cannot be easily resolved is captured within the music of ‘Yodaka.’ It is the incarnation of a single spirit, and their voices will resonate in the hearts of viewers and make this installment more special than any other in the series.”
Producer Matsuhashi Shinzo: “I wanted Yonezu Kenshi to open a new world for Kingdom with this installment, no matter what it took. We told him the concept of the greatest battle in history and asked him to watch the footage and compose freely, because I didn’t want my own narrow thinking to constrain his imagination. When I heard ‘Yodaka’ for the first time, I felt the ‘core’ of a person — calm and composed yet strong at the center of a vast, boundless world. That is what changed the title of the film from ‘the greatest battle in history’ to ‘魂の決戦 (Battle of Souls).’ This song has that much power.”
