Two of Japan’s most distinctive animation studios are joining forces for the very first time. SUNRISE Studios and Shaft have announced a joint production on a brand-new anime project, with a countdown to the full reveal now underway.
SUNRISE Studios is best known as the long-running home of the Gundam franchise, while Shaft has captivated audiences with its visually inventive style across titles such as Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica and the Monogatari Series. The pairing marks the first time the two studios have collaborated on an animated production.
An official X (Twitter) account titled 「サンライズ×シャフト新アニメ」 (Sunrise × Shaft New Anime) launched on June 18, hosting the countdown to the announcement. Full details on the new title are set to be revealed on June 23 at 24:30 JST.
A color script used in the countdown video has also been released, offering fans a tantalizing — if still mysterious — first visual glimpse at what the two studios have been working on together.
