The MAO anime, based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi, will launch its second cour with episode 14 on July 4. The production has also announced that boy group 20th Century will perform the new opening theme song for the second part of the series.

The anime premiered on April 4 on NHK General at 11:45 p.m. JST and is running for two consecutive cours without a break. International viewers can stream the series on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ in Canada, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.

Theme Songs

For the first cour, Kis-My-Ft2 performs the opening theme “HEARTLOUD,” while TRUE sings the ending theme “Juai” (Cursed Love). The second cour’s opening theme will be handled by 20th Century, a unit within the broader Kis-My-Ft2 family.

Story

When Nanoka Kiba stumbles through a portal into a supernatural version of the Taisho era, she is reluctantly saved from a grotesque yokai by the aloof exorcist MAO. Back in the present, Nanoka discovers she has gained extraordinary new abilities, and she returns to the past seeking answers — only to be drawn into MAO’s investigation of a string of gruesome murders.

She soon learns that MAO is cursed by a cat demon named Byoki, and the curse extends to his sword: anyone other than MAO who wields it is doomed. But when MAO’s life hangs in the balance, Nanoka grabs the blade and swings.
