Netflix debuted the first teaser trailer for The One Piece — Wit Studio’s anime remake for the streaming platform — at this year’s Annecy International Film Festival. The clip confirms that Mayumi Tanaka will reprise her role as Monkey D. Luffy, a part she has held since the original One Piece anime launched in 1999. The teaser also offers a glimpse of the Straw Hat crew and other characters from the East Blue arc.
Premiere Date and Episode Count
Netflix will begin streaming the first season worldwide in February 2027. The season consists of seven episodes running approximately 300 minutes in total, adapting the story from the first 50 chapters of Eiichiro Oda’s manga.

Wit Studio’s Vision
In a March interview, Production I.G president/CEO and Wit Studio president George Wada said the remake will feature tighter pacing with none of the padding found in Toei Animation’s long-running adaptation. He noted that Wit Studio aims to bring the same quality it has applied to late-night titles such as Attack on Titan, Spy×Family, and Vinland Saga — a different context from Toei’s version, which aired in a Sunday-morning children’s timeslot. Wada also stressed that the studio intends to fully respect Toei Animation’s original work.
Background
The remake was first announced at Jump Festa ’24 in December 2023 to mark the anime’s 25th anniversary. The announcement indicated the series would adapt content “starting from” the East Blue Saga, though whether it will extend beyond that arc has not been confirmed.
Elsewhere in the One Piece universe, the ongoing anime’s Elbaph arc began airing in Japan on April 5, with Crunchyroll handling the stream. The live-action second season, One Piece: Into the Grand Line, launched on Netflix on March 10 — with its first two episodes screening in over 200 theaters across Canada, the United States, and Japan on the same day. A third live-action season is set for 2027, and an animated Lego special will stream on September 29.
