The official YouTube channel for the short anime adaptation of Sakura Kurihara‘s yuri manga Let Me Fix You (Kimi o Tsumugu) streamed a promotional video on June 21.

About the Manga

Kurihara originally self-published the manga as a dōjin work at Comiket 99 in December 2021. Japanese publisher No. 9 later released it digitally as individual chapters beginning February 13, followed by a compiled digital edition on March 1.

English-language publisher BluPetal launched a Kickstarter campaign on March 13 to fund an English release, targeting US$3,000 by April 11 — a goal it surpassed within hours. The campaign ultimately raised US$28,149 and cleared all stretch goals. Let Me Fix You will be BluPetal’s debut publication.

BluPetal describes the story as following Tsumugi, a quiet and skilled seamstress, who finds herself in the company of Chise — a girl who is not quite alive, yet not quite gone. As Tsumugi mends Chise’s physical form with careful stitches, a delicate bond forms between the living and the undead. The manga blends the macabre with the deeply tender, exploring the labor of love and the beauty of the “broken.”

Buta Productions Controversy

German publisher Dokico had originally announced on April 4 that it was collaborating with Europe-based animation studio Buta Productions on the short anime, with a planned YouTube streaming debut in late May.

On May 2, an X/Twitter user named Maryco (@Maryco02_) posted allegations accusing Federico Antonio Russo (known as FAR), co-founder and co-producer of Buta Productions, of allegedly grooming her. The post has since been deleted, and on May 6, Maryco stated she wished “to formally retract” her accusations against FAR.

On May 3, the anime’s official X/Twitter account stated the staff needed time to discuss with all parties involved whether and how to continue the project without Buta Productions or FAR. The following day, original creator Kurihara confirmed on X/Twitter that the anime would be slightly delayed.

On May 5, an X/Twitter account for Ponbleu — a group claiming to represent former Buta Productions staff — issued a statement saying the former staff had separated and reorganized without FAR’s involvement, and that Ponbleu is “operating as an informal entity in order to fulfill prior obligations with clients.”

Current Status

The anime’s official account announced in May that the project would debut in mid-June. The remaining staff confirmed they would continue to release content that had already been started and paid for, but without Buta Productions or FAR. The delay from the original May release date was attributed to the time needed to sort out the situation.

The team noted that while “the current scope of the project is secure, the future beyond that remains uncertain.” The project was “originally intended to be much bigger than what has been announced so far,” but plans have had to be adjusted until a new studio willing to take on the project can be found.
