The staff behind the anime film adaptation of Kaori Mado‘s novel series You, Fireworks, and Our Promise (Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to, or Kimi-Hana for short) released a “theme song mashup” promotional video on Thursday. The video showcases the film’s theme song “Kienai Hanabi” (Eternal Fireworks) performed by idol group timelesz, weaving together scenes of the main characters Makoto and Aki with real footage from the Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Show.

Story

The coming-of-age romance unfolds against the backdrop of the Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Show in Niigata Prefecture — one of Japan’s three great fireworks festivals, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The story follows Makoto Natsume, a socially awkward and self-doubting high school boy from Tokyo, and Aki Hayama, a beautiful and talented class president. A mysterious drawing of a fireworks display brings the two together, setting them on a collision course with fate as they must make a crucial choice within a limited amount of time.
