Japanese rock band King Gnu has unveiled the jacket artwork and official digital release date for “GO GHOST,” the original opening theme written for the TV anime 攻殻機動隊 THE GHOST IN THE SHELL (Ghost in the Shell). The track will be available to stream and download on July 29, 2026.
Jacket Art Spotlights Motoko Kusanagi
The newly revealed cover art for “GO GHOST” puts series protagonist Motoko Kusanagi (草薙素子) front and center, drawing excitement from fans of both the anime and the band. A non-credit version of the opening sequence has also been posted to the anime’s official YouTube channel, giving fans an early listen to the track.
About the Anime
攻殻機動隊 THE GHOST IN THE SHELL is the latest animated adaptation of Shirow Masamune‘s manga, originally published by Kodansha. The series airs every Tuesday at 11:00 p.m. in the “火アニバル!!” programming block on the Kantele–Fuji TV network.

About King Gnu
King Gnu is a four-piece rock band consisting of Daiki Tsuneta, Yu Seki, Kazuki Arai, and Osamu Iguchi. Since their major-label debut in 2019, the band has become one of Japan’s most prominent rock acts, scoring a breakout hit with “Hakujitsu” and surpassing 500,000 copies sold with their album CEREMONY.
Their 2023 album THE GREATEST UNKNOWN was supported by a five-dome national tour and an Asia tour that drew a combined audience of 400,000. From February 2026, the band has been on “King Gnu CEN+RAL Tour 2026,” their most wide-ranging tour to date in terms of cities visited.
