Crunchyroll has added Assassination Classroom the Movie: Our Time to its platform. The film opened in Japan on March 20, distributed by Avex Film Labels.
What the Film Is About
The new film brings together a full collection of episodes from the original manga that were left out of the television anime series due to time constraints. Original manga creator Yūsei Matsui has stated that the film is not merely a 10th-anniversary project, but also serves as a continuation of the main story.
Staff and Cast
The film is directed by Masaki Kitamura (After-School Hanako-kun, Gundam Evolve) at studio Lerche. Makoto Uezu returned to write the screenplay, and Aya Higami (After-School Hanako-kun) handled character design. All cast members from the previous television anime reprise their roles.
Singer-songwriter Sora Tomonari performs the film’s theme song “Teacher.” The insert song “Machine Gun to Rashinban” (Machine Gun and Compass) is performed by Mai Fuchigami, Aya Suzaki, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Ryōta Ōsaka, and Shintarō Asanuma as their respective characters, under the unit name 3-nen E-gumi Utatan — the same unit name used for songs in the television anime.
Franchise History
Yūsei Matsui’s Assassination Classroom manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2016. It inspired a 22-episode television anime in 2015, a 25-episode second season in 2016, and an anime film that opened in Japan in November 2016. Two live-action films also opened in Japan in March 2015 and March 2016, respectively. In the United States, Toonami began airing the first season in August 2020 and the second season in 2022.
Also on Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll also launched the English dub for the second season of Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs (Otome Game Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai Desu), based on Yomu Mishima‘s light novel series, on Wednesday, featuring a returning cast.
