The beloved cult CG anime POPEE the Performer (POPEE the ぱフォーマー) is set to make a big comeback this summer with a special hybrid event combining theatrical screenings and an exhibition. Titled “POPEE the Performer: Wolf Circus Shibuya Triumphant Performance”, the event runs from August 11 to September 6 at Shibuya Cinecitta in Tokyo.

Originally broadcast on Kids Station between 2000 and 2001, POPEE the Performer is a full-CG animated series known for its darkly comedic and surreal humor, which has earned it a devoted cult following that endures to this day.
All 39 Episodes — Including the Banned One
For the duration of the event, one screen at Cinecitta will be dedicated exclusively to POPEE the Performer. All 39 episodes will be screened, including a previously banned episode that has rarely been seen publicly. The screenings are divided into three programs: MAGIC, PANIC, and COSMIC. The series has received a G rating (no age restriction) from the film classification board, meaning audiences of all ages are welcome.
Exhibition and Merchandise
The exhibition area will feature original storyboards from the production era, shown publicly for the first time, alongside archival merchandise from the original broadcast period. The event shop will stock a range of goods including T-shirts, posters, stickers, and storyboard clear files.
A Frog-Themed Drink You Can’t Miss
On the 7th floor concession of Cinecitta, a special event drink called “一刀両断!! カエル汁” (Sliced in Two!! Frog Juice) will be on sale. Inspired by the series’ perpetually unfortunate frog character, it is a vivid green muscat-flavored soda. Customers who order the drink will receive one random coaster out of four designs as a bonus gift.
