Artist’s Statement

Eighteen years ago, I dreamed I gave birth to a child. I gave the child a name, and then I woke up. Since then, I have kept thinking about that child — a child who has never been born, yet who seems to truly exist because she has a name. It sounds like something out of a dream, but come to think of it, perhaps what I have been doing in my creative work all along is slowly converting such elusive things into words and images. She has never been called by her name, yet that child is now eighteen years old. It must be about time to give this long dream a title.
