The production team behind Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia — the television anime adaptation of Tomato Soup’s manga Tenmaku no Jādūgar (A Witch’s Life in Mongol) — has announced three new cast members. The newly revealed characters are set to make their debut in the anime’s sixth episode, airing this Saturday.

Story Synopsis
Set in the thirteenth century within the vast Yeke Mongol Ulus — the greatest empire the world has ever known — the story follows Fatima, a woman from Persia whose mastery of medicine and science drives her to seek a stage worthy of her talents. She finds her place at the Mongol palace under the patronage of Töregene, the sixth wife of Ögedei, the second Great Khan. Töregene is a formidable woman harboring complicated feelings about the empire’s future. Together, these two women become the axis around which palace politics — and ultimately the fate of the world — revolve.

Broadcast & Streaming
The anime premiered on July 4 at 11:00 p.m. JST on TV Asahi and 23 affiliated channels, as well as BS Asahi, with the first two episodes airing together as a one-hour special. Crunchyroll streams the series simulcast, and launched its English dub on July 18.
The anime held its world premiere screening of the first three episodes on June 13 at United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba. It also screened in competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France in the TV Films category, and Anime Expo hosted the U.S. premiere on July 3.
About the Manga
Tomato Soup launched the manga on Akita Shoten’s Souffle website in September 2021. Since March 2025, it has also been published simultaneously in Akita Shoten’s Mystery Bonita magazine. The sixth compiled volume was released on July 15. The series went on hiatus for the author’s maternity leave before returning on March 25, 2025.
The manga topped the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023 rankings for female readers and placed 11th in 2024. It received nominations for the Manga Taisho Awards in both 2023 and 2024, was nominated in the Best New Manga category at the American Manga Awards, and most recently won the grand prize in the Comic division of the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards. Yen Press publishes the manga in English.
