The episode served as a major turning point in the second cour, delivering both long-awaited catharsis and a devastating blow in the same breath.

The Truth About Ryusei

From the episode’s opening, viewers finally got the confirmation they had been hoping for: Ryusei (織田龍成), who had appeared to defect to the Tendokai, was in fact operating as a spy on orders from Sagume, tasked with exposing the schemes of Inmei. He had secretly met with Shion (石田紫音) to share this truth — and Shion, it turns out, had likewise only been feigning loyalty to Inmei in order to deal with the threat from within.

Fans flooded X with relief: “I knew it — Ryusei is still Ryusei!” “I believed in him the whole time!” “Called it — total spy move!” The anxiety had been building since Ryusei first appeared on Tendokai’s side, but his reputation as the dependable “big brother” figure from the first cour had kept hope alive.

Inmei’s Cunning Counter

In the previous episode, Ryusei had stabbed Inmei from behind to prevent him from misusing the Hakotei. But Inmei proved harder to put down than expected — having anticipated his own isolation after betraying Sagume, he had pre-arranged for Gaimei to frame Ryusei as a traitor. Viewers were stunned: “He’s always one step ahead…” “Ryusei’s been set up… please just don’t disappear again…”

Despite the trap, the combined forces of Ryusei and the Samurai Troopers refused to yield. A highlight of the battle was a combination attack between Ryusei and Shion — both wearers of the Senko no Yoroi (閃光の鎧, Armor of Flash) — which sent fans into a frenzy: “Two Senko users teaming up — that’s insane!!!!” “Ryusei and Shion together is everything!”

Ryusei’s Return

When Ramaga (羅真我) sensed that Ryusei was once again prepared to sacrifice himself to end the fight, Shion acted first — seizing the magatama (勾玉) and using his own life force to suppress its power, taking a devastating blow from Inmei in the process. Collapsing and unable to fight on, Shion entrusted his armor to Ryusei, echoing back words Ryusei himself had once spoken:

“I want to fight to protect everyone’s small, everyday happiness. Those were your words…”

Spurred on by Shion, Ryusei donned the Senko armor once more and rejoined the battle as a Samurai Trooper. The reaction was immediate: “Ryusei is a Trooper again — I’m crying!” “Welcome back, Ryusei…” The five then combined their power to summon the Hakotei and defeat Inmei decisively.

Shion’s Fate

While his comrades fought, Shion lay still, watching them quietly and reflecting on everything they had shared — battles, laughter, their infiltration of Youjakai together. His bond with Ryusei ran especially deep: they had trained together as the new generation of Samurai Troopers, parted ways, reunited, and Shion had been at Ryusei’s side when he disappeared at the end of the first cour.

“I hope this pain becomes the first step that changes tomorrow… The rest is up to you, Samurai Troopers…”

Shion murmured that he would “rest a little,” then slumped in a pool of blood and closed his eyes with a smile. His teammates were left speechless. Ryusei, tears streaming, called out to him:

“Idiot… why are you making everyone cry… you’re still a terrible actor… come on, get up already! Why won’t you say anything… please…”

But Shion did not respond.

Viewers were inconsolable on X: “Ryusei came back but Shion isn’t there anymore… I can’t take this…” “My tears won’t stop… how am I supposed to watch next week…” “Why… why…”

Next Episode

Episode 18 airs on 11 August 2026 and will shed light on Shion’s actions — which, in hindsight, suggest he may have known all along what was coming.
