ODK Media’s North American streaming platform Amasian TV announced on Thursday that it has begun streaming a selection of 20 episodes of the Chiikawa anime — adapted from Nagano‘s manga of the same name — with English subtitles and Japanese audio in the United States. The episodes are available on demand at no cost and require no subscription.
The platform also revealed upcoming additions, with Hyakushō Kizoku seasons 2 and 3 and the Gunma-chan anime set to arrive in the coming months. All of the streams are part of a partnership with Japan International Broadcasting.
Broadcast History
The Chiikawa anime originally premiered in April 2022, airing every Friday as part of Fuji TV’s morning program Mezamashi Terebi. It expanded to twice-weekly broadcasts on Tuesdays and Fridays from April 2023. After its previous series concluded new-episode airings in April 2025 — during which time the show rebroadcast older “pivotal” episodes — a new series launched in July 2025. Sentai Filmworks holds the license for the anime and streams it on HIDIVE with English subtitles.
Voice Cast
- Haruka Aoki, a child actress known for voicing Liza in the Japanese dub of Mighty Express, voices the titular character Chiikawa in her first television anime voice acting role.
- Makoto Tanaka, a child actor from Okko’s Inn, voices Hachiware.
- Ari Ozawa voices Usagi.
Film and Manga Origins
The first theatrical film adaptation, Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu (Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island), opened in Japan on July 24.
Nagano first began serializing the manga on X (formerly Twitter) in January 2020 under the title Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu.
Amasian TV is a free North American streaming service offering anime, Korean dramas, Chinese films, and Asian news, sports, and documentaries. The platform previously added Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood to its free lineup in March.
