The production team behind the original television anime Inherit the Winds (Japanese title: Kaze wo Tsugumono) announced on Friday that the series will receive a special two-week advanced screening at Japanese theaters, kicking off on November 13. The theatrical run will spotlight the story of protagonist Tachikawa Jinsuke, and a new visual for the event has also been unveiled.
Synopsis
Set during the Bakumatsu era in Kyoto, the story follows an amnesiac soldier who is taken in by the legendary Shinsengumi member Okita Sōji. Okita gives the man the name “Tachikawa Jinsuke,” and Jinsuke’s new life begins among the Mibu soldiers.

The original story is by Yutaka Narui and Aniplex, with cooperation from Azuki Mashiba. Tomohiro Kawamura is directing at Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc., while Narui is also penning the scripts. Fumi Ebina serves as character designer, and Shigeru Kishida is composing the music.
Four-Panel Manga and Additional Notes
A four-panel manga adaptation will launch on Star Seas Company’s Twi4 (read as “Tsuiyon”) X account in 2026, drawn by Matsuri Muramatsu.
Narui is a playwright and the founder of theatrical troupe Caramel Box, with a long history of stage productions themed around the Shinsengumi. While one of his previous plays also carried the title Kaze wo Tsugumono, the Japanese writing differs — the play uses kanji for “mono,” whereas the anime uses hiragana — and the anime is officially classified as an original TV anime.
