TV anime Yoroi Shinden Samurai Troopers continues its broadcast on TOKYO MX and other channels, with episode 22 pushing the story firmly into its climax — and dropping a bombshell revelation about the origins of Kai.

Ramaga Turns on the Ten Braves — Sagume Steps In

Just as the combined forces of the Samurai Troopers and the Ten Braves were set to launch a decisive assault on Tendokai, Ramaga seized the moment to betray the Ten Braves and claim the Shield of Dominion for himself, bringing the Haotei armor within his grasp. But standing in his way was none other than Sagume of Tendokai.

Sagume: Ally or Enemy?

Sagume’s true goal, as explained by Ryusei, was never to attack the human world — she wanted to reform Tendokai and protect it from Inmei‘s schemes, which is why she sought Ryusei’s help. However, the fact that she had been draining human life force as a power source left viewers conflicted. “She’s acting like an ally, but the power she’s using comes from human souls she took…” and “You say you’re protecting humanity, but you’ve sacrificed quite a few humans yourself, haven’t you, Sagume?” were among the reactions online.

The Shocking Truth: Sagume Is Kai’s Mother

As Sagume and Ramaga clashed in what felt like a final showdown, the long-hidden truth was revealed: Sagume is Kai’s biological mother. She had intended to pass the Haotei armor on to Kai, entrusting Tendokai’s future to him. Ramaga, however, became obsessed with the armor and secretly plotted to possess Kai’s body in order to claim it — which is why he subjected the young Kai to brutal training, forging him into a vessel worthy of his ambitions.

When fans realized the entire conflict ultimately stemmed from a husband-and-wife dispute, the reactions were wry: “So this is basically a domestic argument?” and “The most terrifying marital spat in history…”

A Tearful Farewell

Sagume ultimately emerged victorious. Kai, his consciousness restored, remembered that Sagume was his mother and exchanged final words with her as she lay dying.

“Thank you for giving birth to me.”

Sagume smiled with quiet satisfaction at those words. Fans were moved to tears: “A reunion like this is too cruel,” and “The fact that Kai grew up enough as a person to be able to say those words — I can’t stop crying.”

Inmei Shatters the Moment

The tender scene was brutally cut short when Inmei appeared without warning and delivered the killing blow to Sagume, who crumbled to dust in Kai’s arms. Inmei instantly became the most hated character of the episode, before turning to face all five Samurai Troopers — with Kai now clad in the “true Haotei” armor, empowered by the Shield of Dominion.

With Sagume, Ramaga, and the Four Beast Warriors all defeated, and neither the Ten Braves nor the first-generation Samurai Troopers able to join the fight, the stage is finally set for the ultimate battle between the Samurai Troopers and Inmei alone.

Next Episode: “Shin”

The title of the next episode is “Shin” — a name that immediately made many fans think of “Shin of Suiko” from the original Samurai Troopers, sparking uneasy speculation about what might be coming in a series that has already seen many deaths. Episode 23 airs on September 15.
