Japan’s free-to-air satellite channel BS12 Twellv has announced two TV-premiere screenings for its “Sunday Anime Theatre” (日曜アニメ劇場) programming block, which airs every Sunday at 7:00 p.m. JST. Anime fans in Japan will be treated to a classic action film and a brand-new theatrical feature on consecutive Sundays in October 2026.
October 18: Street Fighter II MOVIE (HD Remaster) — TV Premiere
The first title is Street Fighter II MOVIE (HD Remaster), the 1994 theatrical anime film that distilled the essence of Capcom’s landmark fighting game franchise. Directed by Gisaburo Sugii and animated by Group TAC under Capcom’s production, planning, and character design supervision, the film makes its Japanese television debut in HD Remaster form on this date.
Set several years after Ryu defeated Sagat, the story follows the criminal syndicate Shadaloo as it spreads terror across the globe. Interpol, working alongside the U.S. Air Force, launches a mission to bring the organization down. Meanwhile, Shadaloo’s supreme commander Bison (Vega in Japan) deploys “Monitor Cyborg” spy robots worldwide to locate the most powerful fighters — with wandering street fighter Ryu emerging as the prime target.
October 25: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: The Lonely Dragon — TV Premiere
The following Sunday brings Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: The Lonely Dragon (映画 小林さんちのメイドラゴン さみしがりやの竜), the first-ever theatrical film in the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid series, released in 2025. This broadcast also marks the film’s television premiere.
Produced by Kyoto Animation — the studio behind A Silent Voice and Violet Evergarden the Movie — the film adapts a beloved episode from Cool Kyoushinsha‘s original manga, serialized in Futabasha’s Manga Action, on a grand cinematic scale. The heartwarming story centers on the dragons who have gathered around ordinary office worker Kobayashi, and takes a dramatic turn when young dragon Kanna receives an unexpected visitor — her real father.
