San-X has announced a brand-new spin-off series for its beloved character franchise Sumikkogurashi (すみっコぐらし), titled Sumikko High School (すみっコハイスクール). Built around the playful premise of “What if the Sumikkogurashi characters spent their days at school…!?”, the line launches as part of the Sumikkogurashi Collection, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2025.
Born from the keyword “this is where I feel at ease,” Sumikkogurashi features a cast of endearingly negative-but-charming characters — Shirokuma (polar bear), Penguin?, Tonkatsu, Neko (cat), Tokage (lizard), Ebifurai no Shippo (fried-shrimp tail), and more. The franchise spans a TV anime series and four theatrical films.
What’s in the Sumikko High School Line-up
Tenori Nuigurumi (Palm-Sized Plush) — 6 varieties
Six palm-sized plush figures dress the characters in school uniforms. Highlights include Zassou (weed) with a sweater tied around its body, and Obake (ghost) cosplaying as a teacher — a delightfully varied set.
Tenori Nuigurumi Set (Two-Pack)
Two-packs come in two combinations: Penguin? & Tapioka, and Tonkatsu (Age-Gyaru?) & Ebifurai no Shippo (Age-Gyaru?). Penguin?’s new hairstyle and a noticeably more golden-brown Tonkatsu — leaning into the “age-gyaru” (deep-fried gyaru) gag — are the must-see details.
Burasage Nuigurumi (Hanging Plush with Keychain)
Ajifurai no Shippo and Ebiten no Shippo each get an “Age-Gyaru?” makeover in this keychain-equipped hanging plush format, with color-variant uniforms adding extra cuteness.
Secret Okigae Sumikkogurashi (Dress-Up Clothes)
A set of six outfit types — two uniform styles, two jersey styles, one blazer, and one secret design — lets fans dress up their existing Tenori Nuigurumi figures for different classroom scenes. (Plush figures are sold separately.)
