Fashion footwear brand MAYLA has announced a special bootie collection inspired by The Case Study of Vanitas (ヴァニタスの手記). Pre-orders will open on the official MAYLA website starting Friday, September 25, 2026 at 5:00 PM JST, with the reservation period running through Monday, October 26, 2026 at 5:00 PM JST.
About The Case Study of Vanitas
The Case Study of Vanitas is a manga by Jun Mochizuki, the creator of Pandora Hearts, serialized in Square Enix’s Gangan JOKER magazine. Set in a steampunk vision of 19th-century Paris where humans and vampires coexist, the story centers on the Grimoire of Vanitas — a mechanical tome said to spread curses among vampires — and weaves a tale of curses and salvation.
A Bootie Designed Around Vanitas
The bootie is designed around the character Vanitas, a human who inherited both the name and the Grimoire from the “Vampire of the Blue Moon.” A self-proclaimed specialist in vampires (Vampir), Vanitas is willing to use any means necessary to achieve his goals and has a habit of dragging those around him into his schemes.
The standout design element is a large blue ribbon at the heel, evoking the ribbon on Vanitas’s chest. The layered fabric creates an elegant draping effect that captures the character’s flamboyant aesthetic.
At the center of the shoe sits an original metal part designed to evoke the Grimoire of Vanitas and its clockwork gears, accompanied by a translucent blue stone reminiscent of the azure gemstone depicted on the tome’s cover. Decorative chains inspired by the Grimoire’s safety chain also hang from the metal part.
The insole and packaging box are likewise designed to reflect the world and characters of the series.
