The One Piece anime has officially confirmed that new episodes will return in 2027, as the current Elbaph arc continues its run in Japan. The arc debuted on April 5, 2026, and is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
A Major Production Restructure
In October 2025, Toei Animation and One Piece anime producer Ryūta Koike announced that the series would reduce its annual episode output to a maximum of 26 episodes per year starting in 2026. Following the conclusion of the Egghead arc, the anime underwent a three-month production hiatus from January through March 2026 before returning in April with the launch of the Elbaph arc — the first of two cours planned for the year.
Goals of the New Schedule
According to Toei Animation, the revised production schedule is designed to allow episodes to “incorporate more content, tempo, and pacing of the manga while continuing to leverage the unique storytelling that is only possible with animation.” Since its premiere in 1999, the One Piece anime has aired nearly every week with only rare exceptions, though its production pace has slowed considerably over the years. The new annual cap marks a significant shift in how the long-running series will be managed going forward.
