Rental and DVD Options

Amazon Prime Video offers the film as a rental at ¥495 per viewing in HD — a good option for a one-time watch. TSUTAYA DISCAS provides DVD delivery rental under its “定額レンタル8ダブル” plan at ¥2,200/month, allowing up to eight DVD/Blu-ray discs per month with no return deadline or late fees.

Story and Highlights

The film follows second-year high schooler Azusagawa Sakuta, living in Fujisawa, whose life is upended when he reunites with his first love, Makinohara Shoko. Shoko inexplicably exists as two separate people simultaneously — a middle-school girl and an adult woman — and Sakuta ends up living with her. As “adult Shoko” strains his relationship with girlfriend Sakurajima Mai, he discovers that the younger Shoko is gravely ill, and the mysterious scar on his chest begins to ache once more.

The film resolves the mystery of Shoko’s identity and the origin of Sakuta’s scar — threads left unanswered in Season 1. It adapts volumes 6 and 7 of the light novel series into a 90-minute theatrical feature. The ending theme, “不可思議のカルテ movie ver.,” is performed by the voice cast playing the heroines. Director Masui Soichi, screenwriter Yokotani Masahiro, and animation studio CloverWorks all return from the TV series.
