The official Pokémon X (formerly Twitter) account, known as “Pokémon Jōhōkyoku,” has published a second round of development documents spotlighting Pikachu (Pale Color) — affectionately nicknamed “Usu-Chu” by fans — from the Nintendo Switch 2 title Poko a Pokémon.
What Is Poko a Pokémon?
Poko a Pokémon, released on March 5, is the franchise’s first-ever slow-life sandbox game. Players take on the role of a Ditto transformed into a human, gradually reviving a withered town while living alongside a cast of uniquely shaped Pokémon companions.
Development Document No. 2: The Secrets of Usu-Chu
The newly released materials are accompanied by the note: “The more you look… the more fleeting it feels…” — a sentiment that perfectly captures Usu-Chu’s quiet charm.
The documents carefully illustrate how Usu-Chu differs from a standard Pikachu:
- Every part of its body is a paler, washed-out color.
- Its ears droop, achieved by slightly reducing the firmness of the ear flesh.
- The left and right ears are angled differently from each other.
- The rear ears are slightly longer than normal and flow backward.
- Its tail is smaller with a gentler angle, and it drags along the ground while walking.
Expressions and Glow Effects
Beyond its physical design, the documents also detail Usu-Chu’s facial expressions. Its eyes are vertically elongated and droopy, and its mouth rests in a slightly slack position. The team designed a full range of expression patterns — default, happy (small/large), surprised, angry, and sad — along with concept imagery of how the character looks when it emits light.
Pricing and Availability
Poko a Pokémon is available now on Nintendo Switch 2 in both physical and digital editions, priced at ¥8,980 (tax included).
