A Franchise Built on Success
The first live-action Golden Kamuy film opened in Japan in January 2024, topping the box office in its debut weekend and selling 356,000 tickets for 533,848,690 yen (approximately US$3.44 million) in its first three days. Netflix began streaming the film in May 2024.
The follow-up live-action series, Golden Kamuy -The Hunt of Prisoners in Hokkaido-, debuted in October 2024 with an expanded directing team that included Katagiri, Ken Ochiai, and Yōsuke Satō alongside original film director Shigeaki Kubo. Japanese rock group ACIDMAN performed the theme song “Kagayakerumono” (Those Who Shine) for that series, which Netflix added in February 2025. Rock band 10-FEET performed the theme “Kowarete Kieru made” (Until It Breaks and Disappears) for the Hokkaido series.
About the Source Manga
Noda launched the Golden Kamuy manga in Shueisha’s Young Jump magazine in 2014, concluding it in April 2022. The series has since inspired four anime seasons, with the final arc having premiered on January 5 and set to continue this winter with the climactic “Runaway Train” arc.
