Shueisha’s Jump SQ. RISE magazine announced in its autumn issue that the Trigun franchise will receive a brand-new novel titled Trigun Manuscript this winter. The novel is a collaborative work between Yasuhiro Nightow, the original creator of the Trigun series, and Takehiko Oxi, the writer behind the Trigun Stampede anime. The story will be set within the world established by the Trigun Stampede and Trigun Stargaze anime.
Trigun Stargaze and Trigun Stampede
Trigun Stargaze is the previously announced “final phase” of Trigun Stampede, set 2.5 years after the conclusion of that series. It premiered on TV Tokyo and affiliated channels on January 10, with Crunchyroll streaming the series simulcast alongside an English dub.
Trigun Stampede itself premiered in Japan in January 2023, with Crunchyroll streaming both the subtitled and English-dubbed versions.
Trigun Franchise History
The Trigun anime is based on Yasuhiro Nightow’s manga of the same name, which ran in Tokuma Shoten’s Monthly Shonen Captain from 1995 to 1997. The series continued as Trigun Maximum in Shōnengahōsha’s Young King Ours magazine later in 1997, running until 2007. Dark Horse Comics has published the manga in English.
The original television anime adaptation, produced by Madhouse, aired for 26 episodes in Japan in 1998 and launched in North America on home video in 2000. Geneon Entertainment (formerly Pioneer) originally distributed the series on DVD, before Funimation later licensed and released it on Blu-ray and DVD. The series is now available on Crunchyroll following Sony’s acquisition of the platform from AT&T. It also aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block in 2003.
The anime film Trigun: Badlands Rumble debuted in April 2010, marking the first new Trigun animation in over a decade at the time of its release.
